Zorbing down the Yum Thang valley

Several splendid strings in a huge, gigantic ball moving down a slope, secured by thick air cushions can get exciting if the person sitting inside the ball is YOU.

Yum Thang Valley, Sikkim

Zorbing, also known as globe-riding and orbing is a game where a spherical ball (generally made of plastic) is rolled downhill and the person remains inside during the journey. The sphere travels from the top of a gentle slope to the level surface. The steeper the slope, the tougher the journey is.  It is very essential to ensure that the orb (the sphere) should be inflated and sealed from within once the rider is inside.

The adventure sport was originated in New Zealand. Most people enjoy Zorbing on land. However, one can add water inside the ball and make it a wet experience. Also, Zorbing can be done on water such as across a pond or a swimming pool. Eg- Aqua Zorbing is  carried out near Purana Qilla and India Gate in New Delhi. A lot of water based theme parks have started Zorbing in a safe and controlled environment.

Although the orbs are designed for cushioning, it is important to be cautious as many injuries such as bruises happen due to collision with objects while rolling down the incline.

“Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the longer run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” – Helen Keller
